O Disco da Vida e da Morte

Certa vez estava em um ônibus, passando sobre um viaduto e ouvindo o “Reckoning” do REM no walkman. Por um instante aquele som me preencheu de tal maneira, me elevou de tal modo que cheguei a dispensar minha vida por um breve momento. Disse silenciosamente, “Deus, se tu quiseres, podes fazer esse ônibus despencar deste viaduto agora mesmo, porque ter vivido até aqui e morrer ouvindo algo assim terá me bastado”. Aguardei por um momento, ouvindo a música, atento a um possível impacto na mureta e um salto no vazio, mas logo abri os olhos e vi que o ônibus já havia descido do viaduto e, ainda que houvesse chance de uma colisão logo ali a diante, parecia que Ele ignorara minha ‘permissão’. O Velho lá por sua vez deve ter dito, “larga de bobagem, menino, que ainda te reservei muita coisa. Vai, vai...”. E tudo seguiu em frente até hoje.
Colocando assim pode parecer que o “Reckoning” seja a coisa mais maravilhosa do mundo, o álbum definitivo, a obra suprema, mas não... Não é isso. É que ele consegue na sua simplicidade, na sua sutil beleza, na sua pureza, na sua, até, crueza, soar tão gostosamente, tão suficiente e tão indispensável que chega a parecer algo assim como um papo com o melhor amigo, um vento na cara, um doce saboroso, um beijo de carinho, um sono numa manhã de sábado.
Do tempo que o REM era mais bruto, mais simples, mais alternativo, mais autêntico, “Reckoning” é feito só de jóias: "Harborcoat", a primeira, é um college rock cheio de ska bem gostoso e embalado e já de cara uma das minhas prediletas ; a adorável melodia de "7 Chinese Brothers" é encantadora; a lindíssima "So. Central Rain (I'm Sorry") antecipa momentos que veríamos depois mais lapídados em "Green" e "Out of Time"; "Pretty Persuasion", talvez seja a mais pop do disco, mas o que não representa, em absoluto, um defeito; “Time After Time”, que vem em seguida com seus ares árabes-orientais, é simplesmente apaixonate; "Second Guessing" tem uma levada embalada e empolgante; a belíssima "Camera" vem nos explorando, nos ganhado, nos conquistando com seu ritmo lento até nos arrebatar de vez com a emoção e envolvimento da interpretação de Stipe; e outra das grandes do álbum, (Don't Go Back To) Rockville, é bem country, bem folk e totalmente raiz americana, aliás uma das marcas do disco, no geral.
Outro daqueles pra se ter em LP: originalmente as músicas foram distribuídas em lado direito e lado esquerdo e isso, certamente, dentro dos quebra-cabeças de letras, momentos e sonoridades montados por Michael Stipe ao longo do disco, tem também seu significado.
Felizmente Deus sequer levou em consideração minha autorização besta de criança. Se tivesse acabado ali não teria criado um blog, não visto meu time Campeão do Mundo, não teria conhecido minha esposa, não veria agora minha filha que está a caminho, entre outras tantas coisas boas (e ruins) que aconteceram desde lá. Mas mesmo assim, sem qualquer motivo efetivamente palpável ou justo, até hoje, quando pego o “Reckoning” pra ouvir não consigo deixar de pensar nele como O Disco da Vida e da Morte.

Saiu uma dessas listas da Rolling Stone com as 200 melhores músicas de todos os tempos.
Concordo com muitas, é lógico, discordo de alguma ordem que outra mas fundamentalmente me parece uma lista excessivamente conservadora. Só foi no certo. Não arrisca quase nada acima dos anos 80. Pode ser que o crítico, os críticos, os votantes, sei lá quem, realmente achem que não existe nada que valha a pena nos últimos tempos, mas assim parece uma lista de melhores até 1975, com raras exceções.
Exceção louvável é ver o Nirvana com justiça já figurar nas 10 primeiras posições.

Coloquei no blog o primeiro da minha lista do melhores álbuns de todos os tempos e então agora resolvi listar o resto.
Sei que é das tarefas mais difíceis e sempre um tanto polêmica, mas resolvi arriscar.
Até o 10, não digo que seja fácil, mas a concepção já está mais ou menos pronta na cabeça. Depois disso é que a gente fica meio assim de colocar este à frente daquele, tem aquele não pode ficar de fora, o que eu gosto mais mas o outro é mais importante e tudo mais.

A Cidade Luz à noite. A Torre ao fundo na primeira foto e na outra um chafariz na Place de La Concorde.

A Sacre Coeur com um ambiente muito legal. O pessoal sentado na escadaria, fazendo um lanche, conversando, ouvindo um som de um carinha que tocava REM com a voz do Michael Stipe.

O famoso Museu do Louvre.

A igualmente famosa Monalisa ao fundo, a pirâmide maior vista por baixo e a pirâmide invertida (lembram do "Código da Vinci"?)

Este, o Centre Pompidou, um museu de arte moderna, moderno desde a concepção arquitetônica. No interior, um painel-instalação brincando com nomes de artistas modernos. Annie Warhol? Miss Vann der Rohe?

Totalmente POP!

Aí é o Musée D'Orsay, uma antiga estação de trem. Este mais na linha realista e impressionista.

Dando um pulo fora de Paris, chegamos a Versailles. No palácio onde viveu Maria Antonieta (e de onde saiu para a gulhotina, também). Muito luxo e riqueza. Notem só o belíssimo jardim.

E fechando com a cidadezinha que nos hospedou. A simpática Etampes, com sua milenar fortificação no alto de uma colina, La Guinette, e com suas igrejas históricas por sua idade, com quase mil anos, e pelo fato de seus motivos, imagens e santos terem sido decapitados na época da Revolução Francesa (notem na foto). Atravessando séculos e acompanhando a História.

Melhores Pop e Rock de 2008

As principais revistas, jornais e sites do meio musical pelo mundo afora divulgaram neste final de ano os melhores álbuns e bandas eleitos por seus leitores e visitantes.
O que chma a atenção, principalmente, é a confirmação dos chamados "indies" como destaques. Estes, os alternativos que já vinham crescendo e aparecendo bem nos últimos anos tomam conta agora e em posições de destaque inclusive em publicações bem tradicionais.
Destaco aqui duas bandas sobre as quais escrevi durante o ano passado e que foram indicadas em várias destas mídias. Uma delas, já bem conhecida mas que lançou um álbum até certo ponto surpreendente, foi o Portishead com seu "Third". O disco da banda beliscou a 2a. posição nos jornais New York Times e The New Yorker além do site Pitchfork, a 3a. na revista Spin,a 4a.no Guardian Unlimited, a 7a. na publicação francesa Les Inrockuptibles e a 9a. no jornal The Observer, além de ter sido o 3o. álbum mais ouvido na Last FM e ter garantido o primeiríssimo posto na Uncut.
Outro dos comentados aqui no SPIN 1/2 foi a boa revelação MGMT com o ótimo "Oracular Spectacular" que me fez sair de casa pra ver uma "aposta" no Tim Festival (e valeu a pena). "Oracular Spectacular" pegou um 5o. lugar no Guardian, 6o. no The Observer, um décimo lugar na Spin, foi o medalha de prata entre os mais ouvidos na Last FM e pegou ouro no NME (New Musical Express) e na Les Inrockuptibles.
Outra banda também citado aqui, o The Ting Tings, aparece na lista da Last FM na quinta posição e o também apreciado por est blogueiro, o soturno Nick Cave aparece bem também em várias listas, como na Uncut, no Sunday Times, na Billboard e na Q Magazine. Dos que já são mais mainstream, o Metallica com "Death Magnetic" pinta em várias paradas e o REM pega uma 9a. posição no Sunday Times. Curiosidade é o aparecimento dos veterano Neil Young na Metacritic.com com seu "Sugar Mountain Live", e de Bob Dylan na Rolling Stone, com "Tell Tale Signs".
No geral, quem mais aparece em quase todas as listas é o popular Coldplay que, do que eu ouvi do tal álbum "Viva La Vida", não me impressionou muito, o Fleet Foxes, que devo admitir não conhecer, e o TV on Radio que eu acho que já ouvi mas que, se não me chamou atenção, não deve ser lá essas coisas, mas prometo dar uma chance a eles.
